Basic Japanese Lesson #1

Hello everyone!
Today I will start doing a new series of Tutorial Tuesday,
and that will be a "Basic Japanese Lesson"
If you simply want to converse in basic Japanese,
then here is the perfect place for you.

So, let's get started!
Soredewa, hajimemashou! | それでは、始めましょう!

しょうかい | Introduction

Japanese | Furigana
ねこ:みなさん、 おはよう ございます。
      わたしは ねこです。
      どうぞ よろしく。

うさぎ:はじめまして。
        わたしは にほんの うさぎです。
        とよだいがく[東洋大学]の がくせいです。
        せんもんは コンピューターです。
        どうぞ よろしく。

Romaji
Neko: Minasan, ohayou gozaimasu.
        Watashi wa Neko desu.
        Douzo yoroshiku.

Usagi: Hajimemashite.
Watashi wa Nihon no Usagi desu.
        Toyo daigaku no gakusei desu.
        Senmon wa konpyuta desu.
        Douzo yoroshiku.

English
Neko: Good morning everyone.
        I am Neko.
        Pleased to meet you.

Usagi: How do you do?
        I am Usagi from Japan.
        Student of Toyo University.
        Specialty is computer.
        Nice to meet you.

Meaning:
Watashi - I
Minasan - Everyone, all of you, ladies & gentlemen
Nihon - Japan
Ohayou gozaimasu - Good morning

Hajimemashite - How do you do?
[used when meeting a person for the first time]
Douzo yoroshiku - Nice to meet you - literally means
"please be good to me" [normally used at the end of self-introduction]

Gakusei - Student
Daigaku - College, University
Senmon - Specialty, specialization of study
konpyuta [Katakana] - computer

*Particles
wa [は] - Is a topic marker. Indicates the topic of a sentence.
Like English prepositions, but always comes after nouns. As in "Watashi wa Neko desu." - "I am Neko." (As for me, I am Neko.)

no [の] - Indicates possession. In this case - "Watashi wa Nihon no Usagi desu." You are Japan's belonging, simply means you are Usagi from Japan. "I am Usagi from Japan"

Verb
Desu [です] - Is a copula, essentially a verb meaning "to be".
Can be translated as "is" or "are". Forms of "be" English include "is", "am", "are", etc, you get the idea. "Desu" goes at the end of the sentence - "Watashi wa Neko desu"

So that's all for today, and please *NOTE that since this is just BASIC,
there will be no further or deep explanation made here,
but you can always ask me question. Thank you!
