I ♡ Chia Seed

I really love chia seeds, especially in a cold tea drinks or juice. One of my favorite restaurant have this special berry drinks which contained chia seeds. And I thought I wanted to buy a pack of chia seeds so that I can make my own drinks with it.

I bought this organic chia seed at local store - Aeon Big Mid Valley.
And its cost is RM16 .85 [about $4]



What I didn't know before is that Chia seed has it's unique health benefits.
So I do my homework and research little information about chia seeds.


Facts:

Chia or Salvia Hispanica, is a flower species and is of mint family, Lamiaceace.

"Chia seeds were an important food for the Aztecs and Mayans back in the day."

Chia means "strength", from the origin/ancient Mayan words.
And "Aztec warriors relied on chia seed to boost energy and increase stamina." [Bobsredmill]


Benefits:

Chia seeds are high in antioxidants
Chia seeds are high in quality protein
Almost all of the carbohydrates in chia seeds are fiber
Chia seeds are very high in the Omega-3 fatty acid ALA
Chia seeds are high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and protein

How to eat:

Soak chia seeds in water before consume
Simply add chia seeds into your drink, yogurt and the like
*Wait for them to fully expand in water prior to ingestion


DON'T:

DO NOT ingest a tablespoon of DRY chia seeds and chasing it with water.

*They expanded and have like-jelly texture, or Pearl Sago.



I have created my own tea recipe,
with mix fruits and chia seeds. This is for cold/ ice tea.



Recipe:

Tea of your choice - I am using Litpon tea
Hot boiled water & Cold water/Ice cube
Mix fruits - I use tropical fruit cocktail
Sugar/ Sweetener
Chia seeds


How to make:

Make your tea like you usually do. Add cold water or ice cube.
Add mix fruits, 2-3 teaspoon Chia seeds, and you are done!

Enjoy your tea!


This beverage is very refreshing and delicious.
Nice to drink during hot weather.

  5. Yes, they are like jelly. I love consuming jelly-like food. ^^
    I never try chia seed pudding, but I will make it soon.
